We believe in every bean.

The small green coffee beans that we process in our roasteries in Mülheim and Ketsch are raw beans that reach us via ship. They come from a great variety of countries, including Kenya, Honduras, Brazil, India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Good coffee
needs good soil.

Coffee plants grow at both low altitudes and high altitudes. Arabicas like the highlands, while robustas are more typically planted in lower regions.
Between the coffee plants, there are often other trees that provide shade and wind protection.
In order for the coffee plants to thrive, the soil should be deep, loose and water-permeable, and the climate should be balanced, without temperature extremes.

From hand-picked to harvester.

Our beans are harvested using a variety of techniques, depending on the growing region, the coffee and the grower: picking (by hand), stripping (harvesting with cotton sheets) and mechanical harvesting, in which a machine “combs” the fruits from the plant.

From cherry
to bean.

After the harvest, the coffee cherries are processed in order to extract the coffee beans. Various methods are used for this. The most well-known are dry and wet processing. Dry processing is the oldest method, and this is the one favoured in countries where water is scarce. The type of processing has a major influence on the flavour profile of the beans and is therefore an important quality attribute, in addition to the harvesting method.

We don’t rest.
We roast.

After the green coffee beans have been delivered and stored, they go to our roasters – either as “single origin” coffee or as mixtures of beans (“blends”).
The exact temperatures and roasting times are defined separately for each coffee. Each one has its own recipe and can be roasted with its own range of unique parameters.

We package
coffee – and over 800 aromas.

Whether ground coffee, whole beans, capsules or pads – every sort of coffee needs the right packaging in order to stay fresh and flavourful for as long as it’s on the shelf.
Ground coffee, for example, is vacuum-packed in a bag lined with aluminium foil. Whole beans are packaged in a bag with a valve that locks in freshness right after they are roasted. Our pads are sold in a resealable container, and our capsules are likewise sealed to preserve their fresh aroma and flavour.
